7. Hong Sieng Kong
Hong Sieng Kong is a beautifully restored complex of six buildings on a Chinatown riverside site.
A few years ago, the Hong family, antique dealers in Bang Rak for 40 years, bought the property.
It was originally intended to be converted into a hotel. However, her son Decha Hung thought the complex was the perfect location for a café combined with live music, events and even an antiques exhibition.
The Hong family has not only preserved the architecture of the time, but also exhibits many rare pieces of Chinese furniture, artifacts and their vintage cars to this day.
So it’s no wonder that visitors to Hong Sieng Kong feel a bit like they’ve landed in Shanghai in the 1920s.
We found it a bit strange that some kind of entrance fee (200 THB) was charged on site. We also had to pay for our drinks and snacks directly at the entrance.
There was no service at the tables and the service was not particularly good. However, the location really is unique, so it’s still worth a visit.
Signature drinks on the menu include Talad Noi Orange Coffee, Coconut Blossom Coffee and Sparkling Red Peach Tea.
The menu includes Western dishes and Chinese specialties such as fried salmon fins with fish sauce, sun-dried beef with fish sauce, black pepper powk jowl and fermented chicken marrow bones.
