Here’s something most visitors never see: the room where their suit is actually made. At a lot of Bangkok shops, your measurements disappear into a workshop somewhere across the city. At Jesse & Son, a team of 26 tailors cuts, embroiders, and sews every piece in-house, and the family running the show has been doing this since 1977.
We asked Manop, the eldest son and head fitter, how a tailoring story that began in Udon Thani ended up on Sukhumvit Soi 10, what happens between your first fitting and collection, and which fabric he’d pick for life in the tropics. Fair warning: you may leave with more shirts than you planned.

How did Jesse & Son start?
The story begins in Udon Thani in 1977, during the Vietnam War era, when the northeast was home to a lot of US military bases. That’s where Mr. Jesse started tailoring alongside his brother and his father.
In 1979, Mr. Jesse and his brother moved to Bangkok and opened their own tailor store. Then in 2013, he started Jesse & Son with his eldest son, Manop, and the business grew into the shop and workshop you’ll find on Sukhumvit Soi 10 today. That’s almost five decades of cutting cloth, in one family.

Who runs Jesse & Son today?
It’s still a family affair, and everyone has their own role:
- Manop, eldest son and head fitter: organises daily operations between the storefront and the workshop, and manages appointments and quality control for every item of clothing made.
- Nick, youngest son and head of sales: looks after customers directly, guiding each one through the fabrics in store and all the design options, and making sure you get exactly what you asked for.
- Mr. Jesse, proprietor: manages the accounts and sources new fabrics and style options.

What sets Jesse & Son apart from other Bangkok tailors?
The big one is the in-house workshop. Jesse & Son has a team of 26 tailors under one roof, each with their own role, from cutting patterns to embroidering and sewing. Manop runs quality control on every piece, so nothing leaves without a family member checking it.
The second is the house cut. Jesse & Son’s in-house cut gives a tapered silhouette that follows each client’s body shape while staying comfortable, and every fitting is there to make sure that standard holds.

Every Jesse & Son suit is cut, sewn and checked by the in-house team of 26 tailors.
How much does a suit cost at Jesse & Son?
Custom suits start at 12,000 THB for a basic blend. Most customers choose the pure Merino wool summer-weight collection at 23,000 THB; it is lightweight, works in every season, and, with a thread count of around 110 to 120, holds up well. A suit means one jacket and one pair of pants.
Shirts are a big hit with business travellers too, starting at 2,000 THB for a basic blend and going up to 3,700 THB for Egyptian or Turkish cotton.
| Garment | Price from (THB) | Fittings | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Custom suit, basic blend | 12,000 | 2 | Jacket and pants |
| Custom suit, pure Merino wool | 23,000 | 2 | The most popular order, summer weight |
| Custom shirt, basic blend | 2,000 | 1 | Popular with business travelers |
| Custom shirt, Egyptian or Turkish cotton | 3,700 | 1 | Top of the shirt range |
Not just suits, either. Jesse & Son also makes blazers, waistcoats, overcoats, tuxedos, and wedding suits; a full women’s range of blazers, dresses, skirts, and overcoats; plus custom shoes and alterations.

How many days do you need for a suit in Bangkok?
Plan at least 3 to 4 days for a suit, with two fittings in between. Shirts and pants need at least 3 days and one fitting. Here’s how a suit order works:
- Day 1, measurements and design: you’re measured, choose your fabric, and get a thorough walkthrough of all the design options.
- First fitting: the tailors position the arms and shoulders, which sets how the jacket will be structured.
- Second fitting: the fit is matched to your taste, with small tweaks to guarantee a sharp look.
- Collection: pick up your suit at the shop, or have it shipped home with DHL.
For shirts and pants, the one fitting uses a single item from each category to get a feel for how you like things to fit, so the rest of your order follows the same pattern.

Can you reorder from home?
Yes, and plenty of clients do. Once your first order is finalised, your sizes are saved to your own customer ID number. Every order, online ones included, is placed personally by the Jesse & Son family, who keep notes on your preferences, and it’s shipped worldwide with DHL. Handy, if one suit turns into a habit.
Which fabrics does Jesse & Son use?
Jesse & Son buys from suppliers it has worked with for many years, many of them family businesses just like theirs.
Most fabrics come from mills and markets in India, and the collections also include Italian names like Vitale Barberis Canonico (VBC), one of Italy’s oldest mills, alongside Zegna, Drago and Reda. VBC makes up most of the range, thanks to its choice of fabric weights and high-quality blends.
Manop’s pick: the VBC Tropical Wool collection. It breathes beautifully without losing structure, which makes it ideal if you live in or travel around Southeast Asia. In other words, a suit you can actually wear in Bangkok.
Who has had a suit made at Jesse & Son?
One of the most recent clients was Emile Heskey, the former Liverpool football player. Not a bad endorsement for a shop on a Sukhumvit side street.
Manop’s tip for your first suit in Bangkok
Don’t rush it. Choose a reputable tailor early in your trip and allow enough time for at least two fittings and any adjustments. As Manop puts it, a well-made suit isn’t just about the fabric; it’s about getting the right fit, comfort, and silhouette.
Insider tip: book your first appointment on the first day or two of your trip. That leaves room for both fittings and any final tweaks, and you can enjoy the rest of Bangkok while the workshop does its thing. Just remember the shop closes at 13:30 on Sundays, so don’t plan a fitting for Sunday afternoon.
“We want every client who wears a Jesse & Son suit to feel confident, comfortable, and effortlessly themselves. A great suit should do more than make you look good; it should give you the confidence to walk into any room and feel your best.”
