Tim Kroeger is a luxury wellness travel specialist, founder of Universal Traveller, and creator of The Restorative Index, a performance-based framework for evaluating how well luxury wellness hotels actually restore the traveler.
Based in Bangkok, he has spent over 15 years traveling to more than 110 countries, an experience that fundamentally changed how he thinks about travel. What started as a pursuit of more destinations evolved into a deeper question: why do some trips leave you energized while others leave you drained?
Today, Tim writes and speaks about travel recovery: how sleep, nervous system regulation, movement, and environment shape the quality of a trip. He reviews luxury wellness hotels and spas through a performance lens on tim-kroeger.com, combining firsthand testing with expert insights from his Beyond the Spa series and global industry roundups.
His expertise has been featured in media outlets including the German newspaper NGZ Online, New Zealand's Stuff, High Net Worth Magazine, Asian Spectator, and GuruNet. Tim has also shared his insights through interviews with the German radio channel News89.4 and appeared on Ticker News.
The Journey
Tim's path into travel began in 2010, when he started a four-year bachelor's degree program in International Tourism Management at NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences, studying across campuses in the Netherlands, Bali, and Thailand.
His coursework covered Destination Marketing, Business Economics, Tourism Industry Operations, Product Development, Research Development, and Strategic Management. This international, multi-campus experience laid the foundation for a career built on understanding travel from every angle.
After university, Tim joined CRS Tours Costa Rica, an incoming tour operator specializing in individual and group travel with tailor-made packages. There, he was responsible for planning and organizing tailored Costa Rica vacations, sales, and social media marketing, his first hands-on experience combining travel operations with digital strategy.
From 2014 to 2020, Tim worked as a Flight Attendant for Lufthansa German Airlines. Over six years in the air, he provided premium in-flight service and gained firsthand exposure to hospitality at the highest level. He also completed the Service Training program at Lufthansa Aviation Training, sharpening his communication skills, culinary knowledge, and ability to deliver individualized care to premium customers.
It was during this period, logging hundreds of flights and crossing countless time zones, that he began to feel the cumulative toll of constant travel on his body and performance. The seeds of his later focus on travel recovery were planted here.
Building the Business
In 2020, Tim took the entrepreneurial leap, founding Tim Kroeger Media LLC. Alongside Universal Traveller, he launched several niche platforms including Guatemala Transport Service, Mexico Transport Service, and Spanish Food Guide. Between 2020 and 2022, he also served as the Country Manager for Dentaly.org, an international dental health portal, where he led SEO strategy, affiliate marketing, and partnership development.
In 2023, Tim co-founded his second company, Latitude 12 LLC, launching Bangkok Insiders, a travel platform focused on Bangkok, and About That Smile, a resource on invisible braces.
The Shift to Wellness Travel
After more than a decade of nonstop travel, Tim made a deliberate pivot. Rather than continuing to chase new destinations, he turned his attention to the question that had been building since his Lufthansa years: how do you travel without breaking down?
This led him to develop The Restorative Index, a structured approach to evaluating luxury wellness hotels based on how effectively they support sleep, recovery, and overall performance. His reviews go beyond surface-level amenities to assess what actually works, and what doesn't, for the high-performing traveler.
Tim's unique background, combining formal tourism education, airline-level hospitality training, years of entrepreneurship, and deep personal experience with the physical demands of travel, gives him a perspective that few in the wellness travel space can match.
